The Ricoh GR camera is one of the extremely popular compact-sized cameras globally. They manufacture stunning compact-sized cameras that pack a lot of power. In fact, I have two GR cameras, the GRiiix and GRiv, that I would take with me all the time to capture everyday moments and also to conduct wrist checks with them.

Recently, I was invited to attend the launch of the 4th Ricoh GR space in Brisbane, Australia. Prior to this, RIcoh has only had its GR space in the Asia region, Tokyo, Shanghai, and Beijing. As a Ricoh GR camera user, I was excited to be part of this launch, as this is their first space in the Southern Hemisphere.

The ceremony was attended by Kazunobu Saiki, who is the general manager of Ricoh Imaging's Camera Business Division, and Ricoh Imaging's President, Yasutomo Mori. Both individuals played a crucial part in the development and evolution of the GR cameras.
The event began with a speech from Ricoh Imaging President Yasutomo Mori, followed by a traditional ceremony in which the sake barrel was broken. This is a Japanese Tradition used to celebrate new beginnings and bring good fortune.

Alongside the opening ceremony, the GR Space also showcases some of the works of long-time GR users on the wall. It was undoubtedly a treat to witness an excellent photographic piece taken with the new compact GRiv camera. I was amazed by the quality that was produced by this camera and being printed on a big piece of canvas.

There was also a nice session where each of the artists shared their experiences and the process of creating the photos for the exhibition. I was definitely inspired by some of them.

The space is designed perfectly to allow the visitors to enjoy the artwork. One of the key features of the space that I absolutely love is the display wall that showcases the first modeled GR camera ever produced to the most recent one. As a camera nerd, this was the part of the exhibition that I spent the most time on.

The evening was also accompanied by excellent, fresh, and tasty sushi, as well as Japanese spirits, beer, and assorted beverages.

Overall, the evening was amazing, filled with tradition, heritage, inspiration, and laughter. I had such a great time seeing familiar faces and getting to know new friends as well.
I was also honored to be asked to take a group portrait of the GR photographers who exhibited at the event.
